I began my drumming journey in 1998, when I received a pair of drumsticks from my aunt for Christmas. After I had proved to my parents my commitment by ruthlessly beating their couch every day, they signed me up for 5th grade band, with private drum lessons soon to follow.
I started my first band in the 8th grade and played with them up until my senior year of high school. I learned a lot from that band. The recording and performing experience they provided gave me a solid foundation to build upon. I knew that drumming was what I wanted to do, and I decided to pursue it.
After high school I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I was fortunate to be able to study with many world-class drummers and educators, and to play in bands with other musicians who felt the same way about music that I did. I majored in Professional Music with a concentration in Performance and Private Studio Teaching, and I graduated with a BA in 2011.
I began teaching professionally after I graduated, as well as pursuing projects that excited and pushed me. The most notable of those was a metal band called Numbers and an indie folk/pop band called Hey Marseilles. I appear on Numbers' self-titled EP as well as their full-length album "Three," and I appear on Hey Marseilles' debut full-length album "To Travels & Trunks." I also spent part of 2016 touring the country with Hey Marseilles.
In 2017 my wife and I decided to move to San Diego, and here we are.
Some other things you should know about me:
Travis Barker was one of my biggest drumming influences growing up. If you haven't heard his work with Blink-182 ("Enema of the State" and on), Box Car Racer, or Goldfinger ("The Knife"), I highly suggest you check it out. Some of my other favorite drummers include Jose Pasillas, Dave DiCenso, and Gil Sharone.
My appreciation for metal music began in college and started with Killswitch Engage's "The End of Heartache" album, and really took off once I heard a band called August Burns Red. Other bands I listened to that influenced me were Between The Buried And Me, Periphery, and Animals As Leaders.
My favorite bands/albums currently are Blink-182 (with Travis drumming), Box Car Racer, Goldfinger's newest record "The Knife," Incubus, Against Me!, Beartooth, the Foo Fighters record "Concrete and Gold," Finch's album "Say Hello To Sunshine," and Periphery's "Periphery III: Select Difficulty."
